The long corridors were painfully white, especially with the rows of blazing lights along the ceiling. She heard a clink as two bottles tapped eachother lightly, walking until she found her room number. On had been scratched out, but that made it all the easier to recognize. Room number 287. The door wasn't decorated. It was like any other door, painted gray with a silver door-knob. The Jounin shoved her key into the lock, turned it, then kicked her way in.
Aliana had been lucky. There were large bottle on sale. She had nine in her hands. By tomorrow, they would more than likely all be gone. If there was one thing about feeling this low that she even remotely liked, it was having an excuse to drink Sake. Kaji drank Sake for fun, probably because it tasted good to him. To her, it was like some heaven on Earth that she only allowed herself on certain occasions; just like the one now. Normally, she would drink wine. But wine was too... light. It wasn't enough. What she needed was something that would leave her passed out on the floor and have her with a pounding head and heaving stomach tomorrow. fuck everything else. She didn't care.
Chiyuu would disapprove, she knew. Chiyuu would lock her in her room and tell her to stop behaving like a spoiled child, ignoring Aliana's statement that she had been a spoiled child for a while. Datenshi bowing to her on the streets and asking her what she needed everytime she went out in public. That got really tiring sometimes.
The Datenshi removed a bottle from her bag, opened it, and took a great gulp. It was a taste she hadn't known for some time, and took her time to savor it. Maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't need all of those bottles.
Aliana took this time to run over her memories, look back at herself and wonder how she had changed. Her 'parents' were probably dead. She hoped they were. One less pair of heartless people off of the planet. Chiyuu deserved to live more than they did. Secretly, Aliana harbored some hope that she was still living. Chiyuu had been the mother she had always wanted. She had known Aliana's actual mother and told her about her parents. Aliana loved to hear about them. They were both loyal and very strong, her mother suited to medical work, her father skilled in the Koumajutsu and the arts of Shishigami. It made sense that Aliana was very skilled. Prophecies were random, but she supposed the Shishigami had seen sense in choosing her. Both of her parents were loyal to his teachings and their clan.
Aliana wondered how some of the other students in her classes had been. The Elite weren't fairing well... They had lost three in the past few months. The Kazekage was more agressive than they had thought. He sent his most powerful ninja for that job. His own brother had killed one of her team-mates she had shared many missions with.
Aliana wondered why there couldn't be peace between their two villages. The Datenshi Clan had never lead a direct assault on their village, and they likely never would. The only reason there still was a war was because their damned Kazekage held grudges too long. Everyone knew it. Sand Ninja were dying because of Kazekage-Sama's anger.
The bottle was empty. She tossed it and grabbed another one, her judgement beginning to cloud over.
She thought back to Kappa and wondered what he was doing. Her feelings for him were gone, but he hadn't seemed willing to accept that when she left. But that was nine years ago. Surely he would've given up the idea of Aliana as a wife. It's not as if she would ever accept, anyways. She thought of Kaji absently, let out a sigh, then took a gulp of the Sake.
'I'm nearly thirty. It'll be nigh on impossible to find any guy that I actually like who would even stay loyal. If I want something loyal, I might as well buy a dog... Or maybe tame a wolf... I do like wolves...'
Her hand drifted lazily to the letter on her desk and she read over it. 'To Datenshi Aliana, Prophecy of the Datenshi, Former Elite...' The titles went on and on, and her eyes skipped over that line. 'On behalf of the Elite, this person sends a formal request to Prophecy Aliana and ask that she return to her home village and rejoin the Elite forces. Recently, three members of the Datenshi Elite were Killed In Action and died the honorable death of a loyal Datenshi warrior. Their funerals were held and their spirits have been said to pass safely. Their names shall not be scribed on this paper, for all Datenshi wish his passage to the Realms of the Dead to be uneventful and his name shall not be spoken until Midwinter two years after his death, as the teachings of Shishigami demand.' She skipped the next words to the next paragraph and read on. 'This person would also like to extend another request, on behalf of the Monks of the Temple of Shishigami, that Prophecy Aliana attend their ceremony in tribute to Shishigami in three weeks time. The presence of a Prophecy will strengthen our bonds with out great and powerful gods and we will honor them with our dances and celebrations for five days time.' The Datenshi Festival... amidst the alchohol, she had forgotten its formal name, but tossed away the slip of paper.
She could always go back to Elite and request their help with Akki. But that might mean leaving Totora... Then again, the Monks could help. With Shishigami's power, all ghosts would stop and they could temporarily block off the effects of Ikibuke workings until... until what? 'The Sake was meant to prevent ill thoughts, not create a flood of them. Just don't think... about anything. Nothing... Flowers... or something... Something that'll make you groggy. How about Sake? Yes, think about Sake...'
Aliana sighed and focused on the Sake, feeling the alchohol take its effect upon her. Her body was slumping, her muscles relaxed, and when she tried to speak it was slurred beyond understanding. The Jounin couldn't think much, and her troubles were a bit farther away by now. All but Totora. 'I won't be surprised if he despises me for the rest of his life. I was so caught up in dealing with the Elite, I wasn't paying attention. When did he get captured? How?... I suppose only Shishigami would know.' Aliana was not going to beg for the forgiveness she wasn't sure she deserved from her student. But she was going to do all she could for him, even if he hated her for the rest of his life. By Atanashi's Fang, she had to try.
But right then, she took another gulp of Sake and let it slowly drain down her throat, too drunk to consider doing anything but drowning down her sorrows as much as she could.
